Rare and Unusual Indian Elephant Base Oil Lamp When I purchased this unique oil lamp the unusual cut glass Victorian fount was badly damaged. I thought it would be possible to find another within a few months but it has actually taken 8 years of searching to find a perfect and exact match! The fount has now been re-seated on the original brass mount and is happily newly attached to the elephant base complete with original burner. The fount, bayonet fitting Palmer & Co duplex burner and shade are late Victorian but I'm unable to date exactly the elephant itself. It is reasonable, I think, to assume it started life as the lamp's base however during the middle period of the British Raj. The nicely carved elephant is made from pleasantly grained hardwood. I haven't been able to have the wood type verified but am reasonably certain that it is Rosewood. The burner has been thoroughly professionally cleaned and the lamp is in perfect working order. The only point to mention is a very small area of good restoration just below where the trunk 'holds' the lamp stand. The tusks - not ivory - are removeable for transportation and can be reattached with a drop of superglue. The 'toenails', I think are real ivory. All Brass Oil Lamp And Shade An elegantly designed good looking all brass oil lamp circa 1890. The burner is a top quality lifter type which can lock on to it's collar, the whole assembly can be raised to light the wicks without removing chimney or shade by turning a key lever. It is a duplex type with two 1-1/16" flat wicks side by side. The inscription on the ceramic disk of the wick raiser knob has 'Messengers No 2 Duplex'. The Art Nouveau shade is of the same period as the lamp and has a stylized leaf pattern. It is in perfect condition with no chips or scratches A lovely oil lamp in good working order. Attractive Clear Cut Glass Lamp With Superior Stand A most attractive late Victorian table oil lamp with a large tastefully cut glass grooved fount. The stand is rather splendid having a heavy brass base with an intricately stylized design. The first segment up from that is of cast brass and the next segment up I think is cast bronze. There is a duplex twin side by side flat wick burner which works nicely. The ceramic wick winder knobs don't have any written name but instead carry the Starburst pattern indicating it was made by Hugo Schneider of Leipzig most likely for the English market . Superb Spelter Table Oil Lamp This striking spelter table oil lamp most likely dates from the turn of the 19th / 20th centuries. It has been thoroughly professionally cleaned and is in good order. It is a drop in fount vase type oil lamp with a tasteful flower and leaf pattern by the prestigious makers Falk Stadelmann & Co and is a nice warm lamp black colour. The burner is of the screw in variety and is a duplex (twin wick) type with snuffer. "Best English Make" and "FS & Co Ld Duplex" is embossed on the ceramic discs of the wick winder knobs. The shade is a nice etched patterned globe type in good condition. This is much more recent than the lamp itself but is a quality shade and perfect match. The oval duplex chimney is a rare antique "Stork Brand," there is a miniscule nick to the top of this - very difficult to see. A lovely oil lamp in good working order.
