Early Victorian Student Lamp
This is a nice example of it's type. These lamps were made originally before the invention of paraffin (kerosene) in 1847 although their use continued for a couple of decades later. They were fueled by Colza (vegetable) oil which was quite sticky and messy to use and needed either a reservoir higher than the wick or a mechanical method of supplying oil from below. Student lamps used the higher reservoir method this being the brass cylinder shown on the right of the picture.
The lamp is of European manufacture and has the makers name "Plank" with a Griffin under it stamped on the burner tube. It is in very good order with just a little age related denting round the edge of the base. I am told that the shade is original to the lamp and it certainly has all the appearance of being so, there are a few glass flaws typical of the Victorian era. The chimney is old and has the initials C. F. H. inside a laurel wreath and Lampe Belge etched on it.
The lamp is designed to slide up and down the central stand shaft to illuminate the required area.
There is a small concealed hole drilled in the underside of the rear of the brass ball shaped slide which indicates that at one time the lamp has been electrically illuminated so it is offered as a decorative piece which could easily be converted to electric illumination. It would be a simple job to re-convert this, the flex running through the fuel pipe and up into the burner area totally hidden connecting to a bulb fitting.

Ornate Belgian Ceramic Vase Drawing Room Oil Lamp
A very imposing tall ceramic and brass antique oil lamp the base of which carries the factory mark of DeWinter of Bruxelles with the number 3025C. This oil lamp is of the vase type and the removeable glass fount fits into the vase top which has a balcony type brass design running round the edge.
The ceramc is lovely and has a blue and white design of tulips and daisies with a variety of stylised leaves. The top and base sections are brass and the two handles are held in the mouths of two brass lion heads.
The burner is a brass single wick type and has on the wick winder knob the name L & B Brevette and a date 1871.
The Bulge Slip chimney is also antique and carries the motiv TBH Cristal with an etched star inside a serrated oval. Under this is 10"' (ten line) which is the brightness rating.
A lovely and rare European lamp.

Attractive Oil Lamp With Hand Painted Blue Glass Fount
Most likely late Victorian this is a very attractive oil lamp with an eggshell blue glass fount having a pretty hand painted flower design running round it. This is attached to a polished brass stand resting on a black ceramic base which is in good shape. The fount is in good condition with no cracks although there are a few manufacturing flaws and some slight fine pitting which is to be expected in oil lamp glass of this age.
The duplex (twin wick) burner is a quality new replacement, arguably the best on the present day market made to similar high standards as the original ones, it has a flame snuffer lever and detachable top in order to access and clean the gauze filter when necessary and is equipped with a brass gallery for a shade to rest on. The chimney is a good round duplex type.

Art Nouveau Dresden Porcelain Oil Lamp
This is a really lovely little porcelain oil lamp from Dresden in Germany circa 1905.
It features two of the heavenly choir angels which were very popular in the Art Nouveau period and the porcelain body is finely potted in pale sky blue and cream and is in excellent condition.
The mark on the underside is of Rudolstadt Volkstedt and is the factory mark of Ernst Bohne Sohne of Dresden, a factory which was founded in 1854 and closed in 1945.
The brass single wick burner works well. It has been repaired at some time and one of the four chimney clasps is very slightly different from the other three.

Rare and Unusual Blue Fount Oil Lamp With Etched Lead Crystal Shade
This rather beautiful oil lamp is really quite unusual and was probably manufactured in the early part of the 20th century.
The fount is a lovely shade of blue glass and has a relief design of mythical type faces interspaced with swags and glass droplets encircling it. The fount connects to a very tastefully designed cast iron stand which in turn is connected to a very fine polished mahogany (I think) base.
The brass burner is a duplex (twin wick) of traditional design with working wick snuffers and has "English Made" embossed on the wick winders. The chimney is an oval duplex with "Fire Proof" stamped on it.
The etched lead crystal shade has a lovely lace type design and is in wonderful condition with no damage.
This lamp is in good working order and would make a fine centre piece for any room.
